Contractor legal
The commercial terms for independent electrical businesses receiving and completing work through Sparky247.
This agreement is between the Sparky247 platform operator identified in the contractor onboarding record and the sole trader, partnership or company that submits the application.
The agreement starts when Sparky247 approves the application. The contractor agreement, platform operating rules, privacy notice and the pricing shown in the contractor portal form the complete marketplace agreement.
The contractor operates an independent electrical business, chooses availability, service area and rates, and may accept or reject every job offer without charge. Sparky247 does not guarantee any volume of work.
The contractor remains responsible for tax, National Insurance, VAT, business expenses and determining the employment status of anyone engaged by the contractor. Contract wording alone does not determine employment status; the practical working relationship must remain consistent with it.
The contractor must maintain the qualifications, registrations, licences and insurance required for each service offered. Mandatory documents must be authentic, current and supplied by their lawful holder.
The contractor must promptly update changed business details and replace expiring documents. Sparky247 may pause offers while checks are incomplete, expired or under review.
A job offer is not binding until the contractor accepts it in the platform. Acceptance records the contractor's call-out, hourly rate, included time and applicable commission for that job.
The contractor is responsible for delivering the electrical service with reasonable care and skill, complying with applicable law and safety standards, and providing required certificates or records.
The contractor sets customer-facing standard and emergency rates within platform limits. Sparky247 charges 10% on completed standard work and 12.5% on completed emergency work unless a contractor-specific rate is shown before acceptance.
Commission is calculated on call-out, labour, travel, additional fees and material markup. It is not calculated on VAT or documented material cost. No fee is charged for an offer that is rejected, ignored, withdrawn or expires.
The customer pays Sparky247 the booking fee shown at checkout to start matching. It is separate from the contractor's call-out, labour, materials and VAT charges.
Customer payments and contractor transfers are processed through Stripe Connect. A payout is created after successful final payment, subject to refunds, disputes, payment-provider checks and any legally required hold.
A call-out may proceed at the accepted rate. Work beyond the agreed scope, including additional labour or materials, must be described and approved through an itemised quote before it starts, except where immediate action is reasonably required to remove a serious safety risk.
The contractor must not conceal mandatory charges, inflate prices because insurance may pay, or move a Sparky247 customer off-platform to avoid commission.
Before contractor acceptance, the customer booking fee is refundable. After acceptance, travel or authorised work, the cancellation policy shown to the customer applies. The contractor must record arrival, time, materials and supporting evidence accurately.
Sparky247 may investigate complaints, request records and temporarily hold a payout while a genuine payment or workmanship dispute is reviewed. This does not remove either party's legal rights.
Customer contact details, address, messages and job evidence may be used only to assess and complete the assigned job, meet legal obligations and resolve related issues. They must not be retained or marketed to for unrelated purposes.
Account credentials must not be shared. Suspected data loss, unauthorised access or disclosure must be reported to Sparky247 without delay.
Either party may end the marketplace relationship by written notice, but accepted jobs and outstanding payment or dispute obligations continue. Sparky247 may immediately suspend access for safety concerns, fraud, expired insurance, serious customer harm or material breach.
Ordinary changes to commission or these terms apply prospectively after reasonable notice. A recorded contractor acceptance is required where a material change needs renewed agreement.
